The Walk Talk

My 4th River Walk

I just took my fourth Riverwalk round trip this morning, just 6 more to go. My first round trip on the Riverwalk June 5th I started at Skyline Resturant and walked to Roschen Park, my third trip last Monday I went from Roschen Park to Skyline and today I started at Ohuta Park and then to Skyline, Roschen Park and back to Ohuta.  Each way took me about 90 minutes and my legs still get tired and my feet were a little sore.  But the best thing about each of the trips is the beautiful environment that I am privileged to walk in.  We are truly blessed in Lake City to have our lakeshore with the trees, birds and bluffs.  Just awesome!

The activity this morning on the Riverwalk was light, a few walkers, joggers and dogs taking their masters for a stroll.  Roschen Park was again full of fishing trailers and the lake full of fishermen and woman.  Too early in the day for sailors and boaters but the marina was busy with people coming and going to Washington Street for their special cup of coffee at Rabbits, Hope’s Harvest or Rhythm and Brew.

I stopped into Hope’s Harvest to look at the art gallery Susan has started in her extra space next to the store.  There was wonderful photography by Jeff Bartelt and oil paintings by his wife Annette featured in the gallery this month.  Stop by and take a look.  Their work truly captures the beauty of Lake Pepin.

If you missed the group walking and geocaching at Ho-si-la Park you missed great weather, a fun activity and yummy gourmet s’mores.  We are planning a group walk in July featuring the historical homes in town.  Watch the Graphic for details.

Water Ski Days 4Oth celebration this weekend.  Head downtown and take in some of the many activities that are featured and especially the parade on Sunday.  While you’re there, take a walk on the Riverwalk, stop and look around, take a deep breath and pause to see the beauty around you and be grateful.

See you on the Riverwalk!

My husband, the techie...

Well, it's June 5th and I went out this morning and "Walked Lake Pepin".  As I live out of town I do most of my walking in my neighborhood.  It has been a few years since I had actually walked the entire Riverwalk and back.  So my husband and I set out this morning to do exactly that. It seemed a great way to start my "Active Living 2011" challenge.

My husband, being the techie that he is, brought along his GPS so we could measure the distance.  I found out that from the Skyline Restaurant to end of the Riverwalk at Roschen Park it is 2.3 miles, round trip of 4.6 miles. It took us about 90 minutes to walk it at an average speed of 3.2 mile per hour.  I also found out that it was quite a hike and I was tired when we finished.  I commend all of you (Frank I know for sure does this)  who walk the entire length and back on a regular basis.  It is a good workout.

The other thing that I enjoyed was the beautiful natural beauty that surrounds you as you walk along.  The lake view and bluff vistas were so wonderful I paid little attention to traffic.  It was fun to watch the buzz of activity near the marina and the fisherman and sailboats on the water.  I even saw a family; mama, papa and baby mallards, out for a Sunday morning stroll on the water (check out the picture on our Facebook page.)

As I said I live about 3 miles from the stoplights on the north end of town so have spent little time on the Riverwalk.  So I  have made it my  goal to walk the Riverwalk, all 3.75 miles once a week, over the next 10 weeks.  I will keep you posted as to what I see along the way.

It's June 5th, start walking and counting those minutes of "Active Living 2011".

See you on the Riverwalk!!!
