Truth be told WLP may not have survived all these many (13) years without the enthusiasm, promotion and love Frank gave to this community walking event.
Frank had been in declining health the past 2 years and was diagnosed this summer with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) aka Lou Gehrig's disease. Frank had a gradual decline this fall and winter and passed peacefully today, March 10, with his family by his side.
Frank was the most positive and optimistic human who you would ever want to meet.
He saw the positive in all people and situations.
He was the ultimate promoter of Walking Lake Pepin every year. If you were lucky enough to meet him on the River Walk he would invite you to join the walking group and talk your ear off about most anything.
He delighted the walking group with his signature "rope trick" and inspired us with his love of life and all things outdoors.
We will not soon forget his oft repeated and powerful statement that guided his life.
The sun is shining and the birds are singing;
it's a great day to be alive.
Frank, thanks for your devotion to WLP, your friendship and sharing your love of live.
Rest in Peace. You will be missed
A memorial gathering in Frank's honor will occur later this summer in Lake City.
